New Zealand to reduce owners' costs

New Zealand's racing authority has introduced a new measure to make ownership of a racehorse more attractive.

From 1 February, a newly introduced “Free Racing” model will see Non-Acceptance and Scratching fees will be charged for horses that are nominated but then withdrawn or scratched. In practice it means that if a horse starts in a race the Owner will not be charged, other than for the Jockeys’ Riding Fee.

The changes apply to all non-Group and Listed races and non-Prestige Jumping Races. Nomination and Withdrawal fees will still apply for these races.
