Tokyo (JPN) / Saint-Imier (Switzerland), 10 June 2014 – The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) and the Swiss watch brand Longines recognized ORFEVRE (JPN) as the co-third highest rated horse in the world for 2013, on Tuesday 10 June 2014 during a ceremony held in Tokyo.

For the year, the top Japanese runner annexed a win in the G2 Prix Foy and was second in the G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Following an outstanding 8-length victory in the G1 Arima Kinen (Grand Prix) on 22 December 2013, ORFEVRE ascended to a rating of 129, tying him with the two-time American Horse of the Year, WISE DAN (USA) [129] as the co-third rated horses in the world for 2013 in the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.

The Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings are horse racing’s equivalent to world rankings by other major sporting organizations and are based on the ratings earned by horses running worldwide from North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The ratings are compiled under the auspices of the IFHA by racing officials and handicappers representing the five continents.

The Australian mare BLACK CAVIAR (AUS) and the French filly TRÊVE (FR) were placed equal first with a rating of 130 in the 2013 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings. BLACK CAVIAR, TRÊVE, and WISE DAN were previously honoured at the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Ceremony held 6 December 2013 during the gala dinner of the Longines Hong Kong International Races.
