US measures against online gambling payment transactions

The US government has proposed regulations to implement the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). These regulations will ban any financial transaction related to unauthorized online gambling transactions.

Interested parties are invited to comment on the proposals by 12 December, 2007. A copy of the new regulations can be found at: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20071800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2007/pdf/07-4914.pdf

The UIGEA and the proposed implementing regulations do not directly effect interstate betting on horseracing because this is considered legal under the Interstate Horseracing Act (IHA). In other words, the use of payment systems for betting on horseracing remains allowed.
